For a lovely HNW family in Dubai, we are seeking an experienced House Manager/ Butler who can set up the household and deliver a refined European style service. Drivers only. Ideally with formal butler training. German language skills are an advantage. 2 year contract possible.

The HNW family has two children and live full-time in a large beautiful property with a sizable garden which is taken care of by contractors. The interior is stylish, classic and includes antiques, art work, silverware, wooden floors and precious stone. The family employ 6 staff members, including nannies and a chef and normally frequently go on vacation. There are no pets and the role reports directly to the Principals.

The duty of the House Manager/ Butler is to ensure the entire household operates smoothly to high standards and without supervision from the Principals. The family frequently entertain and wish to do so with pride and to the highest European standard. This is a fabulous role that allows an experienced House Manager/ Butler to revel in their formal butler training and knowledge of service to create a uniquely elegant home with personal touches and exquisite fine detail. While on an everyday basis the household runs semi formally, the family adore the 7 star service found in the world’s finest hotels, which they wish to experience in their home and extend to their guests visiting. It is the House Manager/ Butler’s role to take the initiative to suggest, implement and uphold the high European flair and standards of the household.

The duties of the House Manager/ Butler:

  • Managing staff and cleaning schedules
  • Training, coaching and appraising staff to elevate standards and create an elegant home
  • Setting up a household manual/ inventories for consistency
  • Checking room setups, made beds etc and adding personal touches
  • Overseeing laundry and wardrobe management
  • Assisting with packing and providing a valet service when required
  • Purchasing luxury toiletries locally
  • Arranging appointments and bookings if needed
  • Liaising with and overseeing contractors
  • Dealing with petty cash/ cards and in time oversee household bills and budgets
  • Reporting any issues
  • Organizing small parties with detail (max 15 to 20 guests once or twice a month)
  • Liaising with the Private Chef and caterers on menus, recipes, wines, canapes
  • Decorating the house elegantly, including arranging of flowers, lighting aromatic candles
  • Setting up and serving High Tea, suggesting recipes to the chef
  • Providing breakfast or tea trays beautifully presented
  • Decorating tables with finesse for formal parties
  • Drinks and table service, when required
  • Organizing days out for staff on their day off
  • Keeping the property child safe
  • Running errands

Requirements:

  • A min. of 5 years’ experience managing staff in private households
  • A background in 5 star hotels (or equivalent), ideally formal butler training
  • MUST HOLD AN EU/ UK passport
  • Fluency in English, ideally German speaking
  • Clean drivers license (a local license can be obtained)
  • Ability to manage international household staff to high standards
  • Great knowledge of formal service and luxury materials
  • An acute eye for detail to deliver that high class personal service
  • Highly organized and with a mind set to exceed expectations
  • Good communicator and confident trainer
  • Culturally aware and sensitive
  • Respect the family’s COVID rules

The HNW family seek a House Manager/ Butler who can raise and maintain standards while motivating and leading the household team by example. The ability to be proactive, patient, hands on, flexible and reliable is key as well as the attention to detail that sets service levels apart. The staff are hard-working and a good team who benefit most from having things followed up and demonstrated to them.

There is the possibility to travel to other properties with the family in the future and help set up and run these properties in Europe. Previous experience in the Middle East is useful but not essential. A suitable uniform for semi-formal or formal times is to be discussed. Cooked meals are provided to staff while on duty.

Hours: 5 days a week 10am - 8pm (9am - 7pm are also possible or when family travels) with a lunch break and some flexibility when entertaining, time in lieu given (starting later the following day), two separate days off during the week. This role can be offered as a two year contract.

Salary: AED 21.000 - 31.000/ (approx. €5000 -   €7500) per month tax free, depending on experience and training. Self-contained furnished apartment provided close by (rent and utilities are paid for), medical health insurance, one yearly return flight to a chosen home destination, 4 calendar weeks holidays, cooked meals while on duty, use of a car including private use (except fuel). Three months’ probation.
