Live-in Junior Butler, Siena, Italy

For a HNW client we are looking for an English/ Italian speaking Live-in Junior Butler to assist in the care of a historic villa on their estate outside Siena in Tuscany, Italy. Accommodation, transport and food provided. Driver´s license required.

The operation of this stunning and unique private estate is vast and consists of many facets and purposes. The private household, where the Junior Butler is based counts as one smaller but important part of the entire estate.

The main private villa consists of a Master wing, used by the Owners and a guest wing both of which are joined by a kitchen and courts yards. This building is furnished with marble and wooden floors, in a classic style with modern touches. Close by is another building that includes car storage, an entertainment area and three fully furnished staff apartments (for the Private Chef, Head Butler and Junior Butler) with beautiful views over Tuscan hills.

A few walking minutes away is another historic building which is used for educational and hospitality purposes and forms a small part of the Junior Butler´s remit.

The estate employs many staff but for these properties there are 6 full-time housekeepers, a Private Chef and the Head Butler, who this role reports to. Staff from other properties abroad also assist if needed. The couple own a pet dog, who is much adored and who sometimes stays on the estate and is cared for by the live-in household staff on a rota basis.

The client visits for 4-5 months of the year with visitors and entertainment kept in very small numbers. The household is however still very busy throughout the year with the upkeep and care of the properties to high standards.

On the estate there is a strong ethos of teamwork, philanthropy and sustainability. A high level of technology is used throughout for all operations (from wardrobe/ wine management, to lights or AC etc.). The household is run semi-formal and the team of staff work quietly, non-rushed, efficiently and discreetly, priding themselves in providing an exceptional contemporary service that is based on traditional butlership.

The duties of the Junior Butler:

•        Decorating and laying tables
•        Providing full and detailed meal service (plated courses and family style)
•        Managing wardrobes including packing
•        Assisting with special events
•        Using Apps daily to manage properties/ contents
•        Carrying out admin duties
•        Supervising staff (training provided if required)
•        Overseeing contractors
•       Reporting any issues
•       Caring for the pet dog (based on a rota), if required
•       Occasional driving duties including driving Principals
•       Valeting high end cars
•       Running errands

Requirements for the Junior Butler role:

•        Must be legal to work in Italy (EU passport)
•        2-3 years high end experience in table and drink service, ideally in a private household (butler training can be provided)
•        Knowledge of butler duties (silver service, packing) is an advantage
•        Fluency in English and Italian
•        A clean driver license and confident driver in Italy
•        Must be tech-savvy (Microsoft and iphones/ ipads)
•        Must have a strong service orientated attitude
•        Written references from former employers
•        A recent security check (to be obtained if not on hand)

 We are looking for a competent Junior Butler who has an acute eye for detail, a can´-do attitude and who is positive, friendly and service orientated, able to fit into a strong steam. Excellent communication and organizational skills as well as a willingness to learn are welcome skills.

The accommodation for the Live-in Junior Butler consists of a full-furnished self- contained apartment near the main villa with a bedroom and en-suite bathroom, a kitchen, a utility area, a kitchen dining area and living room and a separate toilet. Due to the close proximity to the Principals property pet´s or dependents are not possible. There is no uniform as such but when the family is in residence the butler is required to wear a jacket/ trousers, shirt and tie. Without visitors smart casual is acceptable (poloshirt and chinos or similar)

There are three cars (manual and automatic) that are used by staff for work (for private use, own fuel should be purchased). The nearest town is the beautiful town of Siena which is 10 min away by car.

A paid trial is anticipated after successful interviews.

The hours: Mon- Friday, when not in residence: 7.30am – 4 or 4.30pm with time for lunch (all eat together around a table). When the Owners are in residence there are two shifts (early/ late). For any extra hours, time in lieu is given. Weekend work is rare.

The salary: €40,000- 60,000 gross a year depending on experience on a full-time, permanent basis, under an Italian COLF contract (once a year the Junior Butler is required to pay their own income tax after which the net/ take home is approx. between  €2450- 3460 a month). All utility bills paid and meals (lunch and dinner) provided and surplus food from the vegetable gardens can be used (once approved by the Chef).
