For a new HNW famly we are looking for a creative live-in or live-out Private Chef who is passionate about Japanese cuisine, based in Varese, Italy (outside Milan). Local apartment and transport can be provided for exceptional candidates, a drivers’ license and family experience are essential.

The client lives with his family in a beautiful country house with a very large professional kitchen. His work place is based close by in local offices (a lakeside location), which also contains a kitchen. The client frequently entertains with 2 course lunches at the office and 3-4 course dinners at the house (normally with 4 guests and very occasionally up to 10). These are served in an informal setting and consist largely of Japanese cuisine. Lunch is usually served between 1pm and 2pm, dinner at around 8pm. Other staff are able to assist with service or to help in the kitchen if required. There are no dietary requirements and there is no travel with this role.

 Duties of the Private Chef:

  • Creating imaginative menus based on Japanese cuisine
  • Sourcing, ordering and stocking fresh seasonal high quality produce
  • Cooking sashimi, grilled, simmered, steamed, deep-fried or dressed dishes
  • Overseeing kitchen cupboards and stock levels
  • Managing suppliers
  • Preparing delicious and healthy dishes from the Japanese cuisine
  • Laying tables and presenting dishes well
  • Keeping kitchens tidy and clean to high standards
  • Liaising with the Private PA and the other staff
  • If possible, sourcing and purchasing traditional dishes/ utensils for an authentic experience
  • If required cook or bake with the children (when they visit)


  • 4-5 years’ experience as a private chef working for a family
  • Chef’s qualifications/ training
  • In depth knowledge of Japanese cuisine and high quality products 
  • Experience of working at Nobu, Zuma or similar high quality restaurants
  • Ability to cook simple and healthy meals (not Michelin style)
  • Fluency in English, ideally some Italian
  • Local Italian location preferred but not essential
  • Willingness to relocate to northern Italy if needed
  • Clean drivers’ license
  • Food Safety Level 2
  • References from past private families
  • Recent security check

The client is looking for a dynamic, pro-active, creative, energetic and keen candidate with a professional attitude and excellent knowledge of Japanese food. This role allows the chef a lot of freedoms to explore their passion for cooking and could be made available as a two year contract, if preferred. On very rare occasions some weekend work may be required, time in lieu given.

Ideally the client would like to find someone local. For exceptional candidates a local furnished apartment and use of a car are offered.  

The hours: Mon - Fri 11am - 2pm and 5am- 9pm with some flexibility, time in lieu given

Salary: EUR 60,000 - EUR 80,000 gross a year depending on experience.
