For a British family we seek an experienced Head Housekeeper to care for their large property near Cheltenham, Cotsworlds. Separate accommodation offered nearby. Drivers only.

The property was built 10 years ago and is to modern standards including smart home technology. It contains 9 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms with several reception rooms, two terraces, a library and a wine cellar, all set in large grounds. The family employs two housekeepers and a handy-man/ gardener. This is a permanent residence and the family travel frequently during holidays.

The Head Housekeeper is to oversee and train the housekeepers to provide the family with an efficient service. This is a busy informal household with two dogs. Family and friends visit frequently and the family likes to entertain. The role reports to the Principals directly and the primary duty is the smooth running of the housekeeping to high standards without interrupting family life.

The duties of the Head Housekeeper:

  • Overseeing the housekeeping and laundry
  • Managing and training housekeepers including temporary staff when needed
  • Scheduling and overseeing contractors
  • Ensuring work is carried out to high standards
  • Assisting with packing if required
  • Overseeing laundry cupboards and organization
  • Wardrobe management (winter/ summer/ repairs)
  • Oversee purchasing toiletries and cleaning products
  • Scheduling deep cleaning soft furnishings
  • Assisting with housekeeping when required
  • Occasional flower arranging (if experienced)
  • Dog care if needed (feeding only)

Requirements:

  • A min. of 5 years experience as a Head Housekeeper of a large family home
  • Must be legal to work in the UK (UK passport or UK (Pre-) Settled Status)
  • Clean drivers´ license
  • Highly knowledgeable on high end housekeeping standards
  • Past experience in leading a small team successfully
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Must be familiar with smart home technology
  • Recent DBS security check (can be obtain during recruitment process)
  • Excellent references from past families

The current Head Housekeeper is moving abroad after several years. The family is looking for a discreet and flexible Head Housekeeper who is personable and easy going. It is essential that the Head Housekeeper is hands on in their approach, able to lead by example and work as part of a team.

Accommodation is a well-appointed 2 bedroom apartment locally (walking distance). A car can be used when needed. 

Hours: Mon – Fri 8am to 5pm with some flexibility (time in lieu given)

Salary: £50- 55K gross a year depending on experience on a live-in basis plus holidays.
