Private Educator/ Governess with travel; Milan (COLF)

For a lovely family based in Milan, we are looking for an experienced bilingual (English/ French, ideally also Italian) Private Educator/ Governess to oversee the education of two children full-time, with accommodation provided locally under a permanent Italian COLF contract. A driver’s license is a must.
The children (aged 10 and 12) go to international school. The family lives in Central Milan, with a support team in place. There are no pets. The mother works from home some of the time and also travels for work.
The Private Educator/ Governess should support the children’s intellectual and cultural development, working alongside the mother to provide a stimulating, structured and nurturing environment, while respecting the family’s values.
They should have the ability to recognise and nurture each child’s individual strengths, interests and learning style, and be able to balance academic excellence with creativity, wellbeing and character development.
The duties of the Private Educator/ Governess:
- Supporting academic and intellectual progress
- Identifying areas where additional support and enrichment would be beneficial (Maths and English)
- Creating supplementary studies as necessary from age-appropriate educational resources
- Managing all the children´s extracurricular activities
- Researching and scheduling outings and experiences during weekends and school holidays to educate and teach by introducing literature, music, art, history, science, current affairs and other subjects
- Cultivating an appreciation of education, different cultures and traditions
- Accompanying the family (or just the children) on national or international travel
- Ensuring continuity of educational routines while travelling
- Visiting museums, theatres and cultural exhibitions with the children
Requirements for the Private Educator/ Governess:
- Must be legal to work in the EU
- Excellent spoken and written French and English are a must (ideally also Italian)
- Clean EU driver’s license
- A minimum of 6 years’ experience working with HNW families
- A degree in Education, Child Development or a related subject
- A teaching qualification is highly desirable
- Experience with children of similar ages
- Have a wide range of interests
- Highly organised
- Naturally discreet with impeccable integrity and manners
- Well-spoken
- Flexible to travel (time in lieu given)
- Written references
- A recent security check (can be obtained during the recruitment process)
We are looking for candidates who have a passion for lifelong learning and inspire intellectual curiosity. They should genuinely enjoy spending time with children, while being patient, supportive and professional.
Candidates should inspire rather than instruct and lead by example acting as a trusted mentor. They should be confident in working independently, use their own initiative and be able to commit long-term. They should be well organised, focused and bring warmth into the role while acting as an example to the children at all times.
The family travels every half term, and the Private Educator/ Governess would travel with the family (own accommodation). At other times, the Private Educator/ Governess would take the children on educational weekend trips.
Hours: 5 days a week with 2 days off depending on the children’s schedule, 12 noon – 8pm approx. with flexibility.
Salary: €80,000 – €110,000 depending on experience. The role is offered under an Italian CCNL Lavoro Domestico (COLF) contract. From this the employee pays IRPEF income tax once a year which nets approx. €3,540–€4,850 per month (x 13 months), depending on individual tax circumstances, plus accommodation provided locally with an apartment.
